Hi, love what you guys have done with the woodland. I’m just curious why are so many trees dead, is that normal or what is the cause?

    Cheers

    Chris

    • Good morning Chris, apologies for the late reply. The dead trees are due to an infestation some years ago but voracious insects! There was nothing that that the mangers of the woodland could do at the time to mitigate the event and sadly the trees have died. There is some sign of ‘natural’ regeneration on the forest floor in the areas where the trees have perished and so that is a positive.

    Hi,

My name is Alex Hunter, I am an MSc student at Edinburgh Napier University studying Wildlife Biology and Conservation. My research project is based around woodland creation and ground flora development and I am exploring attitudes towards planting practices and woodland management actions. I’m looking for participants to complete a quick 10-15 minute survey which is completely anonymous. If you are over the age of 18 and are actively involved in any type of woodland creation project, have been in the past or hoping to be in the future it would be great if you could take part. I’d also really appreciate it if you could forward this email to any colleagues or anyone you know who might fit this criteria. Here is the link to the survey: https://survey.napier.ac.uk/n/zz7av.aspx

    Many thanks,

    Alex

    Hi,
We moved to the island last week after relocating from Staffordshire. We have our own paddleboards and wondered if we could get to grips with them on your loch as we are still relatively new to the sport so need the practice!
    Regards
    Jo

    • Good morning Jo, apologies for taking so long to reply. No problem about using the loch with your paddleboards. Its Community project. But please be aware that you will be using the site at your own risk, so please take appropriate precautions. SurfLewis are currently holding courses for paddleboarding on the loch too, so you might want to check them out too. http://www.surflewis.com mobile 07920 4237

Good evening. We will be visiting the island at the beginning of September and wondered if we are allowed to bring our well behaved dog on a lead? I also use a wheelchair and wondered if the whole route is accessible by wheelchair please? Kind Regards

    • Good morning,
The boardwalk on both sides of the woodland are wheelchair accessible. Obviously if it has been wet you will need to take extra care as sometimes the boardwalk can become a little slippery. Dogs are very welcome on a lead, please take responsibility for any waste, there is a dustbin in the car park. I hope you have a fantastic visit to Aline Community Woodland and also to the rest of our beautiful islands of Harris and Lewis. If you need any further information please don’t hesitate to get in touch, my number is posted on the website here and on our Facebook page or you can message us on Instagram too.

    Hi!

I’ve been a reader of your blog for around 4 months and I would like first of all to say that I really enjoy it.

I’ve got recently some problems with my eyes which effects my reading ability.

Thereby I have a favor to ask. Is it possible for you to add an audio podcast version of your articles?

It would be very useful for people like me and others who like to listen to your content.

I’ve researched on that a bit and I found few free services that can help to do that.

Here are the websites that I found that can add podcast to your site for free, maybe there are more but I found these two.

    https://websitevoice.com

    https://www.text2speech.org/

    Thank you!

There are a couple of broken boards on the car park side of the boardwalk.
One has been broken since end of July and the other I noticed just this weekend.
I had reported both via the Facebook page but the messages don’t appear to have been picked up.
Hope these can be repaired soon.

Hi, I’m planning to cycle the Hebridean Way this July and need somewhere roughly 40 milles from Leverburgh to camp overnight. I was wondering if it would be okay to pitch my tent in your woodland park.

    • Good morning. That’s fine so long as you leave the place you camp as you found it. Please also have consideration for other users. There is a cabin by the main car park if you need temporary shelter from the weather and another up at the Children’s Playground which has a rainwater lavatory and is usually open.
